  11.           Norman R. Haynes has been named manager of the ì
  12. ì
  13. Systems Division of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
  14.  
  15.           Haynes, 43, replaces Dr. C.R. Gates, who recently
  16.  
  17. became deputy assistant laboratory director for technical ì
  18. ì
  19. divisions.  The appointment, effective June 2, was announced ì
  20. ì
  21. by Dr. Bruce Murray, JPL director.
  22.  
  23.           A JPL employee for 2l years, Haynes received his ì
  24. ì
  25. bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from ì
  26. ì
  27. Purdue University in 1959 and his master of science degree ì
  28. ì
  29. from the University of Southern California in 1961.
  30.  
  31.           Most recently he has been science and mission ì
  32. ì
  33. design manager for the Galileo Project, the proposed follow-ì
  34. ì
  35. on mission to the Voyager Jupiter exploration.  Previously he ì
  36. ì
  37. served as space program development manager after a decade of ì
  38. ì
  39. engineering and systems analysis work on Mariner missions to ì
  40. ì
  41. Mars.

  43.           Haynes is married and has four children.  They ì
  44. ì
  45. reside at 1220 Tropical Ave., Pasadena.

  47.           Caltech operates JPL for the National Aeronautics ì
  48. ì
  49. and Space Administration.
